HUVUCSO, is committed to protect children from all forms of child abuse. These forms of child abuses are both physical and emotional abuses which are affecting the welfare of children in western uganda and in uganda at large. The most districts in western uganda where children are experiencing alot child abuses are kyegegwa, kasese, bundibugyo, ntoroko, Kyenjojo and Kabarole districts. The children in these distrcts have faced different categories of child abuse. Forinstance Kasese, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo districts children are facing early child marriage, child neglect and physical abuses. Whereas in the other districts of Kabarole, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa children have experienced a myriad of sexual abuse from different categories of people around them. In these places also children face child labour, child neglect and many more. Through our baseline surveys, as a community based organization, we have learnt that there many child abuses which are being done to the children and the child abusers don´t know know the rights of the children and hence these communities need to be sensitized a bout the broad topic of child protection.
The worst forms of child abuses in the Ruwenzori region have been child labour, with 50.6%, childneglect 70% and early child marriage with 76.3%. this is because NGO´s do not go deep in rural communities to follow the issues regarding the welfare of the child in Africa.
HUVUCSO agrees with Rajiv Shah USAID, who analyzed that “early child marriage often occurs in the shadows of poverty and gender inequality, impending efforts to empower girls and boys and achieve long term, sustainable develöpment. it is both a symptom and a cause of on-going develpment challenges, as the practice of child marriage further contributes to economic hardship, human rights violations and under-investment in the educatiional and health care needs of children”.
